WEST POINT, N.Y. – Josh White drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning, and reliever Jacob Carte stranded the bases loaded in the ninth to help Army West Point to a 7-4 win over Bucknell in the final game of the season series on Sunday at Doubleday Field. Luke Johnson had two hits and Luke Hartman drew three more walks for the Bison, who had taken two games from the Black Knights on Saturday, but Army claims the season series three games to two.

Bucknell dropped to 4-7 in Patriot League play, while Army improved to 5-2.

Trailing 2-0 early, the Bison tied it up in the third inning. After Evan Madigan singled and Hartman walked, Johnson drilled an RBI double down the left-field line. Tyler Wincig followed with a ground ball to plate Madigan and knot the game up at 2-2.

Army went ahead with an unearned run in the fourth. Anthony Giachin reached on an error to start the inning and went around to third on a single by Mat Hudgins. White’s sac fly scored Giachin to put the Cadets ahead to stay.

Army tacked on an insurance run in the fifth and two more in the sixth before Bucknell cut its deficit to 6-3 on a two-out RBI double by Dominic Toso. The Black Knights parlayed a hit batsmen, a sac bunt and successive wild pitches into a run in the bottom of the eighth. That proved to be a big one, as the Bison threatened in the ninth.

Keifer Rawlings led off the ninth with a single, and JohnPaul Bell and Chuckie Scales followed with walks. Carte came out of the bullpen to replace Cam Opp, and Madigan greeted him with a sac fly to right field. Hartman walked to re-load the bases, but Carte got out of the jam with a pop out and a strikeout.

Bucknell collected six hits and seven walks in the game, but left nine runners on base. Hartman now has 19 walks on the season, one behind Wincig for the team lead.

Bison starter Jack Grabek allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings. Jack Simpson covered the final 2.2 innings and allowed just the single run in the eighth. Daniel Burggraaf earned the win for Army after yielding two runs on two hits over 5.0 innings. He was followed by three relievers, with Carte earning the save.

Johnson recorded his team-high 11th multi-hit game of the season, and he has now reached base in 18 straight games. He upped his season average to .337 after collecting two hits in this one.

Bucknell now has a pair of non-conference games coming up in the middle of the week. The Bison travel to Binghamton on Tuesday before hosting Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday. Then next weekend Lafayette visits Depew Field for a three-game Patriot League series.
