PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Bucknell baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to defending Big Ten champion Ohio State Wednesday at North Charlotte Regional Park.

Bucknell (6-7) finished with eight hits in the game, including two each from Brett Smith, Danny Rafferty and Alex Baumann.

Jack Grabek got the start for the Bison, pitching 6.1 innings. He scattered five hits and struck out six, while being charged with three earned runs. Nate Grisius (1.2 IP) was strong in relief, limiting the Buckeyes to one hit for the remainder of the game.

Ohio State (8-8), coming off a victory over Patriot League foe Lehigh Tuesday, got on the board first with two runs in the fifth inning and added one more in the sixth.

Bucknell scored two runs in the seventh to cut the deficit to one, with runs scored by Smith and Alex Salem. The Buckeyes added insurance with two runs in the bottom of the inning en route to picking up their third straight win.

Connor Curtis started on the hill for Ohio State, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings. Kyle Michalik (1.1 IP), Seth Kinner (1.1 IP) and Yianni Pavlopoulos (1.0 IP) pitched the final 3.2 innings.

The Bison return to action for a three-game series against Massachusetts beginning Thursday (Mar. 16) at 3 p.m.
