LEWISBURG, Pa. – Behind 17 points, including five three-point baskets, from former three-time All-Patriot League performer Chris Hass ’16, the Blue team prevailed 59-46 in the 2018 Men’s Basketball Alumni contest last Saturday. In a spirited affair that provided a true test of endurance without a sub available for either team, Hall-of-Famers Chris Seneca ’87 and Mike Joseph ’90 helped to provide the grit that put the Blue team over the top.
On a day where just one big man was on the floor, the guards filled up the net from long range on both teams. The Blue team drained 12 three’s on the way to victory, while the White squad had 10 of their own in defeat. In addition to Hass’ three-point barrage, Seneca added three triples, and both Joseph and big man Jeremiah Bennett ’04 canned a pair. Former Bison point guard Darryl Shazier ’11 paced the white team with four treys, while Dave Steigerwald ’96 and current assistant coach John Griffin ’08 each threw in a trio of shots from beyond the arc.
Current assistant coach Joe Meehan (15 pts, 4 assists) and Joseph (10 pts, 2 assists) joined Hass in double figures for the Blue team, with Seneca (3 assists) and Bennett contributing 9 and 8 points, respectively. Steigerwald paced the White squad with 15 points, followed closely by Shazier and Griffin with 14 and 11, respectively. Matt Fiery ’10 added six points and a pair of assists, and Dan Blankenship logged three helpers for the White team.
Other alumni in attendance but not playing in the contest included Chuck Carroll ’68, Harvey Edwards ’78, Steve O’Brien ’80, Ed Sigl ’84, Kevin Blackwell ’85, Mark Allsteadt ’87, Keith Fenton ’91, Stephen Tyree ’10, Probese Leo ’12, and Brian Fitzpatrick ’13. Prior to the Bucknell game against Lafayette that evening, the alums had dinner together in the Graham Building and were later recognized on the court during a break in the action with the Leopards.
