LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Fresh off an MVP performance in the Patriot League Touranament, Bucknell senior point guard Stephen Brown has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week. Brown was sensational in leading the Bison to the championship and another NCAA Tournament bid. In wins over Loyola, Boston University and Colgate, he scored 64 points, tallied 13 assists and recorded five steals, while committing only two turnovers.
After posting 16 points against Loyola in the quarterfinal round, Brown scored 19 of his 26 points in the first half of a 90-59 victory over Boston University in the semifinals. He then had a 19-point second half before finishing with 22 and six assists in the final against Colgate. Brown went 5-for-7 from 3-point range, including a 35-footer at the end of the shot clock, and his drive down the lane for a dunk was the exclamation point on an 83-54 championship-game victory.
A First Team All-Patriot League selection in 2017-18, Brown is averaging 14.9 points per game entering Friday's NCAA matchup with Michigan State. He ranks third on Bucknell's career assists chart with 521, and his 1,289 points are 19th-most in school history.
The Bison are 25-9 and seeded 14th in the Midwest Region. Bucknell and Michigan State tip at 7:10 p.m. on Friday at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. The game will be televised on CBS.
