LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its yearly award for women’s basketball Friday, and Bucknell had an impressive five players honored. A trio of Bison juniors earned All-Patriot League recognition with Kate Walker on the First Team, Kaitlyn Slagus on the Second Team, and Kyi English on the Third Team. Additionally, senior Catherine Romaine picked up a spot on the All-Defensive Team, and freshman Abby Kapp was voted to the All-Rookie Team.

Walker’s rise to a First Team All-Patriot League selection isn’t a surprise to the Bucknell coaches or players despite not making the All-League Team after being one of the top players on a title-winning team last season. She left no doubts this season while leading the Bison to a runner-up finish in the regular season, averaging 12.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists.

Walker really made her case during league play, averaging 14.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 assists. She scored in double-digits in 10 of the final 13 games and had at least one steal in 15 of the 18 total league games. Part of the reason for the junior’s big improvement this season has been her ability to get to the basket and to the line. She ranks second in the conference in free throw percentage at .823 (102-124).

Slagus earned her second straight Second Team All-Patriot League selection after being one of the most dominant post players in the conference this season. Bucknell’s success often mirrors hers, as the Bison are 10-0 when she records a double-double. The junior is averaging 12.4 points and 8.8 rebounds. She has been solid at the line, as well, shooting 77 percent (86-112).

Slagus closed the regular season on a high note, recording double-doubles in four of the final five games. She capped the run with a career-high 25 points and nine rebounds in a 75-55 win over Army on Wednesday. She also eclipsed 1,000 points for her career during that game.

English lands an All-League honor for the first time in her career after averaging 10.1 points and 2.6 assists. The point guard is often the one to make things happen for Bucknell if the offense goes stagnant, using her ability to get by multiple defenders and finish at the basket. The junior’s assist numbers have also improved this season, including 11 games with at least four.

Some of the league’s best talent was made up of post players this season, giving Romaine a challenge nearly every game. The senior held numerous players in check that were averaging double-doubles at the time of the game. She finished with 21 blocks and 21 steals in addition to being one of the most versatile players on the offensive end.

Kapp has played a pivotal role in her first year with the Bison, providing a spark both offensively and defensively off the bench. She has established herself as one of the team’s top outside shooters, hitting 46 percent (22-48) of her shots from beyond the arc over the final 22 games of the season. Kapp was a one-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week selection and had four games with double-digit points.

Bucknell wrapped up the regular season at 21-8 overall and 15-3 in the Patriot League. The Bison will be the second seed in the conference tournament and will host the winner of seventh-seeded Holy Cross and 10th-seeded Colgate on Monday at 6 p.m.
