LEWISBURG, PA – The books have closed on the fiscal year at Bucknell University, and thanks to the continued support of our dedicated athletics donors, the Bison Club raised more than $2.4 million in total annual support of the university’s 27 varsity sports programs for the second consecutive year. The fundraising arm of Bucknell University Athletics, the Bison Club raised $2,412,166 from 3,924 donors during the 2015-16 fiscal year, and the athletics programs received another $70,988 in match money as a result of gifts made during the Trustee Challenge last April, and another $204,475 as a result of team-specific fundraising activities during the past year. All told, Bison Athletics accumulated a record-total of $2,687,629 in annual support during the past fiscal year.
“We are extremely fortunate to have so many dedicated alumni, parents and friends as athletics donors to Bucknell, and I cannot thank them enough for their continued support of our 27 varsity programs,” director of athletics and recreation John Hardt said. “That annual support has a direct impact on the experience our more than 750 student-athletes enjoy, and on the levels of success we have in the athletic arena as well as in the classroom.”
This is the fourth time in the past five years the Bison Club has surpassed the $2-million mark, and the 13th straight year it has been over $1 million. In the past 12 years the Bison Club has raised over $23-million in annual support of Bucknell Athletics. The 3,924 donors ranks third all-time, behind only the single-year mark of 4,094 set last year and the 3,935 donors during the 2013-14 fiscal year.
“This success is a combined effort of so many individuals,” said Todd Newcomb ’88, P’19, the director of the Bison Club. “With the generous financial support of our donors and the continued cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts led by our head coaches and athletics development staff, we continue to raise the bar and exceed our stated goals.”
In terms of individual sport fundraising 15 of the 21 programs (list includes all varsity sports plus cheerleading) met their individual fundraising goals. Ten of those programs topped the $100,000 mark, and nine of the 21 set records in terms of dollars raised in a single year.
A new year with a new Bison Club pure donation goal of $2.5-million is already underway. If you would like to support Bucknell University Athletics you can log on to the Bucknell Athletics web site at www.BucknellBison.com or contact Todd Newcomb in the Bison Club office at 570-577-1771.
