LEWISBURG, Pa. – Buoyed by winter championships in men’s and women’s basketball and women’s indoor track and field, Bucknell has increased its lead in the Corvias Patriot League Presidents’ Cup standings to 7.75 points over second-place Navy.

After the conclusion of the fall sports season, Bucknell had garnered a four-point lead over Lehigh. The Bison then accrued 48.75 from the six winter sports for a total of 92 with 13 championships in the books.

Navy also had a strong winter (53.25 points), earning the other three Patriot League championships in men’s indoor track and field and men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and the Midshipmen jumped from sixth place after the fall up to second with a total of 84.25. Boston University is now third with 79, followed by Lehigh (76.25), Army West Point (73.25), American (53.5), Colgate (53.5), Holy Cross (46.5), Loyola (41.25) and Lafayette (33.5).

In addition, Bucknell holds the lead in both the Men’s and Women’s Cup races. On the men’s side, the Bison have compiled 39.25 points through the winter season, two points more than Boston University. In the women’s standings, Bucknell (52.75) has a 5.75-point lead over Navy (47).

Presidents’ Cup points are awarded based on a team’s performances in the regular season and postseason Patriot League standings. In cross country, golf, rowing, swimming and diving and track and field, the points are awarded based on the final team finish at the Patriot League Championship. Points for football are based on regular-season standings.

Wrestling is not a Patriot League-sponsored sport, but Bucknell also had a strong showing there this winter, finishing sixth out of 16 teams at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships. The Bison then sent four wrestlers on to the NCAA Championships.

Bucknell has now won six conference titles in 2016-17, with the three winter champions adding to women’s cross country, women’s soccer, and men’s water polo (Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference) titles in the fall.

Bucknell has won 18 of the 26 Presidents’ Cup titles, although Navy has captured the last three. Bucknell did win the Women’s Cup last year.

Eleven more Patriot League championships will be crowned in the spring.
