LEWISBURG, PA. – Bucknell Athletics recognizes not only the significant performances and academic successes of its student-athletes during the 2016-17 season, but the unwavering support for the Bison from local and regional businesses through new or established relationships with Bucknell's athletics multimedia rights partner, Learfield.
Bucknell Sports Properties (Learfield's local team) is dedicated to bolstering the corporate partner platform and identifying companies and businesses of all sizes looking to align their brand with the Bison. General Manager Trudnak and his team secured 22 new corporate partnerships this past year, in addition to numerous renewals and multi-year agreements. Moving forward, Bucknell Athletics will continue its partnership with Learfield, as the two parties recently signed a new agreement providing the collegiate marketer the right to continue managing sponsorship and multimedia rights for the Bison through 2026.
“The partnership between Bucknell Athletics and Learfield has been extremely positive, and we look forward to the future opportunities this long-team extension can provide,” said John Hardt, director of athletics and recreation. “We have seen phenomenal growth in this area since the inception of our relationship with Learfield and recognize the important role this plays in providing Bison student-athletes with championship-caliber collegiate experiences.”
Some of the brand-new partners to Bison Athletics during the 2016-17 athletic season included Evangelical Hospital, Jersey Mike's, PNC Bank, Harrisburg Airport, The Daily Item and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport. Bucknell Sports Properties worked closely with each new partner and the athletics administration to formulate the various sponsorship elements to best fit their brand objectives and level of engagement.
Hardt added, “We are extremely grateful to these corporations and local businesses who commit to our athletics program and the hard work and dedication of our student-athletics. Their support of Bison Athletics is invaluable.”
In addition to oversight of the Bison's corporate partner platform, Learfield's Bucknell Sports Properties manages all other aspects of the rights agreement, which includes signage, digital, television and radio play-by-play, and coaches' shows.
According to Trudnak, “The Bison brand is strong and growing, and it's rewarding to work daily with local and area businesses that want to specifically align their brand with Bucknell. Together we're able to craft an ideal sponsorship that resonates with their goals and Bison fans and campus community.”
Bucknell sponsors 27 varsity intercollegiate sports at the Division I level. It is a charter member of the Patriot League and has won the league's all-sports championship in 18 of the 26 years it has been contested. Bucknell annually ranks among the national leaders in student-athlete graduation rates and continues to rank in the top-10 nationally in number of Academic All-Americans.
An industry leader in the college athletics landscape for more than four decades, Learfield manages the multimedia and sponsorship rights for more than 120 college institutions, conferences and arenas. Learfield also supports athletic departments at all competitive levels as title sponsor of the prestigious Learfield Directors' Cup, and it provides its collegiate partners access to professional concessions and ticket sales; licensing and trademark consulting; digital platform expertise; and venue and technology systems through its affiliated companies. Separate from the multimedia rights agreement, Bucknell is a client of Learfield Licensing Partners, and Learfield's ANC is the company that oversaw the recent video display upgrade in Sojka Pavilion.
