One of the most storied traditions in college lacrosse, the game will be played at Providence College's Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Held every year since 1940, with the exceptions of 1944 and 1945, the Division I/II and Division III games feature 140 of the finest senior men's lacrosse players in the United States. Admission to the game is free, and it will be streamed live on Lax Sports Network.
All four Bison will play for the Division I/II South Team, which will be coached by Robert Morris head coach Andrew McMinn. Borgognone will wear his familiar No. 13 while O'Brien will be No. 27, O'Hara No. 33 and Sands No. 38.
This is the first time in program history Bucknell has sent four to the USILA/Nike North-South Senior All-Star Game. Three Bison played in this prestigious game at the end of the 2012 and 2011 campaigns.
Borgognone started all 15 games at close defense in 2018, posting 30 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. An All-Patriot League Second Team selection who helped Bucknell hold 10 of its 15 opponents under 10 goals, he led all defenders in ground balls and tied for the team lead in caused turnovers.
This season, O'Brien recorded 42 goals on a school-record 145 shots. He became the fifth Bison to eclipse the 40-goal threshold in a single campaign and led the Patriot League in both goals per game (2.80) and goals per league contest (2.75). He netted multiple goals in all but two tilts, topping out at six against Mount St. Mary's. He also notched five against Navy and No. 19 Lehigh and four at No. 3 Yale, including the golden goal with 1:02 remaining in overtime.
O'Brien was previously honored on the 2018 and 2017 All-Patriot League First Teams and 2018 All-ECAC Second Team. He finished his career a single point shy of reaching the century mark and ranks third in school history with 314 career shots.
O'Hara was voted to the All-Patriot League Second Team after registering 45 points on 37 goals and eight assists. Bolstered by six four-goal outings, he eclipsed the 30-goal plateau for the second-straight season. Three of his four-goal efforts came against nationally ranked opponents: No. 18/20 Colgate, No. 6 Loyola and Yale. He added a pair of assists against the Bulldogs to set a new career-high total.
Sands, who on May 13 was announced as a Third Team All-American by Inside Lacrosse, put together one of the finest offensive seasons in the men's lacrosse team's 50-year history. The attacker posted 75 points on 20 goals and a school-record 55 assists. One of only four Bison to eclipse the 70-point threshold in a single campaign, he recorded at least one point in all 15 games, notching at least five in six. He topped out at 10 points (3g-7a) against Boston University on March 17, which was one shy of Bucknell's single-game record.
Over the course of the 2018 season, Sands reached a number of career milestones. He became the third Bison to eclipse the 200-point plateau, the fifth to register at least 100 assists and the sixth to net his 100th career goal. His career total of 243 points, which came on 102 goals and a school-record 141 assists, stands second in school history.
Sands was previously recognized on the 2018 and 2017 All-Patriot League First and Academic Teams, the 2018 All-ECAC Second Team and the 2016 All-Patriot League Second and Tournament Teams. A two-time member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, he made the cut to 25 from 50 this season.
