Todd Newcomb, a 1988 Bucknell graduate, is in his 19th year as a member of the Bucknell staff and his 17th as Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs and Director of the Bison Club.
After two years as the department’s director of athletic communications, Newcomb now focuses his efforts towards this important position within the department. He is responsible for managing and directing the department’s fundraising, development and alumni relations programs. He works closely with the Development and Alumni Relations staff and is responsible for assisting to coordinate annual, planned, capital and special gifts for the department of athletics and recreation.
Under Newcomb’s watch, the Bison Club topped the $1 million mark in donations for the first time in 2003-04 and the $2 millon mark for the first time in 2011-12. In 2016-17, the Bison Club topped 4,000 donors, totaling a record $2.71 million in gifts.
While the director of athletic communications, Newcomb served as the primary contact for the Bison football program and oversaw all publicity and media relations for the school’s Division I athletics program. Under his direction, recruiting brochures for all sports were redesigned and produced in an 8 1/2 x 11 format for the first time. The Bucknell football and men’s and women’s basketball media guides were increased in content by over 20 percent.
Newcomb also oversaw the transition of the athletic department’s website from an in-house operation to a partnership with the Official College Sports Network (now CBS College Sports).
Newcomb returned to Bucknell after working for 10 years in the Patriot League office. During the last six months of his stint in the conference office, he served as interim executive director of the Patriot League. Prior to the interim position, Newcomb was associate executive director of the Patriot League from July 1997 to January 1999, and was assistant executive director of the league from August 1989 until June 1997. In those two positions he was responsible for the promotion and publicity of the league, its activities and the accomplishments of its student-athletes.
Newcomb began his career as an athletic communications intern with Bucknell and the Patriot League in 1988-89. He is a member of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors, has been an active member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and served on the executive board of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) from 1994-2001, including a stint as president of ECAC-SIDA in 1999-2000.
A native of Port Jefferson, New York, Newcomb lives in Lewisburg with his wife Heather and his three children: Courtney (23), Drew (19), a member of the Bucknell football team) and Brett (16), and the stepfather of Bradyn (20) and Bryce (18).
