LEWISBURG, Pa. – Derek Mead will join the Bucknell swimming & diving program as an assistant coach, head coach Dan Schinnerer announced Thursday.

Mead spent the past year as a graduate assistant coach at Wisconsin. With Mead's help, the Badger women finished third at the Big Ten Championship while the men took fifth. Wisconsin ultimately qualified a total of 11 individuals for the 2017 NCAA Championships.

Before joining the Badger staff, Mead served as the head girl's swimming & diving coach at Forest Hills Northern/Eastern High School (2013-2016) and the head boy's swimming & diving coach at Rockford High School (2014-2016). During his high school coaching career, he guided 11 All-State honorees and five All-Americans.

Mead's athletes consistently rewrote their school's record books. Every record fell during his time at Forest Hills Northern/Eastern, and his Rockford athletes broke four school records.

From 2013 to 2016, Mead also served as an assistant coach with the Rockford Riptide. For the Riptide, he ran practice groups for athletes from age six to 21.

Mead enjoyed a successful collegiate career at Grand Valley State, where he was a member of three GLIAC champion relay teams (2013 400 freestyle, 2012 and 2011 800 freestyle relay).

Mead graduated from Grand Valley State in 2014 with a B.S. in Education with an emphasis on Social Studies and Physical Education. He obtained his master's degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from Wisconsin in 2017.
