LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a record-breaking performance on Saturday at the Bucknell Team Challenge, sophomore Matthew Fay has been tabbed Fifth Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week.

Fay, an All-Patriot League pole-vaulter, broke the school record in the event en route to a first-place finish. Fay, who entered with a personal-record of 16-2 ¾, cleared 16-9 ¼, smashing the previous best of 16-3 recorded by Dave Pomfret in 2000. His mark is the second-best in the Patriot League this season.

Fay was one of seven first-place finishers that helped the Bison claim the team title. Joseph Breen (discus), Nicholas Lombardo (long jump), Ross Pirnie (steeplechase), William Melchionni (400-meter), Jordan Jackson (800m) and Jacob Stupak (3,000m) each won the individual title in their respective event.

The Bison will compete one last weekend before the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. Bucknell will send a group of athletes to compete at the Penn Relays (Apr. 27-29), while another group will compete at Bloomsburg (Apr. 29).
