STANFORD, Calif. – Charlie Niehaus made a season-high 17 saves and Marko Djordjevic posted a goal and two assists, but the No. 16 Bucknell men's water polo team couldn't overcome No. 4 Stanford Friday afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal scored the game's first five goals and never looked back, downing the Bison by an 11-3 margin to move to 10-3 (0-1 MPSF) on the season.

In the second quarter, Bucknell (12-9, 7-0 MAWPC) scored back-to-back goals on the man advantage to pull within three, at 5-2. But Stanford responded with a 6-0 run that spanned the second through fourth quarters to put the game out of reach.

Ben Hallock (4g) paced the Cardinal offensively while Drew Holland made 12 saves. Rade Joksimovic led all players with five steals while Logan Schofield drew a game-high two ejections.

Stanford was the third top-five team the Bison have faced in 2017. They previously took on then No. 5 Pacific on Sept. 2 and then No. 4 UCLA on Sept. 9.

Entering its game with Bucknell, the Cardinal was averaging nearly 15 goals per game. When excluding games against its fellow top-five teams, Stanford was averaging nearly 18 goals per game.

The Bison return to the pool tomorrow by beginning play at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament, previously known as the Santa Clara Rodeo. The Bison face California Baptist (4 p.m.) and Loyola Marymount (8 p.m.) tomorrow and Santa Clara (1:20 p.m.) and UC Davis (5:20 p.m.) on Sunday.
