WORCESTER, Mass. (Lake Quinsigamond) – The Bison second varsity eight earned a gold medal, the varsity four won a silver medal and the varsity eight finished in fourth place, helping the Bucknell women’s rowing team to a third-place finish at the Patriot League Championship on Friday. Navy won the team title for the third time in the last four years despite finishing runner-up to Boston U. in the varsity eight race.

Bucknell, which won seven consecutive Patriot League titles from 2006-12, was one of just two teams (along with Navy) to have at least a pair of top-two finishes on the day. The second varsity eight won its Patriot League Championship finals race for the first time since 2011, while the varsity four posted its second consecutive runner-up finish.

The varsity eight and second varsity eight advanced to their grand finals thanks to strong performances in their heats earlier in the morning. Both boats won their heats with the varsity eight beating out second-place Navy and the second varsity eight crossing the finish line ahead of Boston U.

Heats of the varsity four were not contested as there were seven entrants in the event. Bucknell finished second to Navy and comfortably one spot ahead of Boston U. in the event.

The overall team standings featured Navy with 49 points and 2014 champion Boston U. with 48. Bucknell was in third with 44, with MIT (35) and Georgetown (33) rounding out the top five teams. Thanks to their victory, the Mids will represent the Patriot League at the NCAA Rowing Championships May 27-29 in Gold River, California.

Bucknell has finished in the top three of the Patriot League standings every year since 2006.
