LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s rowing team was picked third in the Patriot League Preseason Rowing Poll, announced by the league office on Friday. The preseason poll is compiled from votes from the league’s head women’s rowing coaches and sports information directors.
Navy, the defending league champion, totaled 123 points and 11 first-place votes to top the preseason poll. Boston University, the 2016 runner-up, received seven first-place votes and was second with 119 points, while Bucknell tallied 100 points to finish third.
The Bison captured seven straight Patriot League titles from 2006 to 2012, but Navy (2013, 2015-16) and Boston University (2014) have won the last four. The Bison have finished in the top three during that span.
MIT checked in at fourth with 83 points, followed by Georgetown (74), Holy Cross (56), Colgate (42), Lehigh (35) and Loyola (16) to round out the nine-team ballot.
This year’s Patriot League Championship is set for Friday, May 12 at the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey. The winning team earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. from May 26-28.
