UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team fell to a very strong Penn State by a final score of 7-0 on Wednesday evening at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center, in University Park, Pa. The Bison started out a little cold in doubles, but improved in singles play.
The Orange and Blue fell 3-8, 3-8 and 2-8 in the No. 1, 2 and 3 doubles spots, but made very strong showings in singles, even though no points were earned.
In the No. 4 spot, it was freshman Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) who turned in the strongest performance of the night, taking Lauren Holzberg into three sets. Globerman lost the first set 6-1, but fought to win the second set 6-2, but then fell in the last set, 6-1.
Freshman Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates), in her first dual match in the No. 2 position, fell to Katelyn BeVard, 6-1, 6-3, in a very tough battle, while classmate JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) fell 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot, to Kristine Harclerode.
The Bison are next scheduled to play host to American in the first Patriot League match of the season on Friday in Lewisburg, Pa. The action is set to begin at 4 p.m.
