LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team finished its first weekend of tournament play at the Bloomsburg Invitational, where Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) led the Bison with five victories.

In singles play against Bloomsburg, Bucknell jumped out of the gates very strong, winning six of eight matches. Globerman dropped Torie Cunningham in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) downed Ida Hokkanen in a 6-2, 7-5 match, while Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Twp.) and JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) won their first matches of the season against Emily Murphy and Tracy Nissenbaum, respectively. Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) came out on top in a two-set tiebreaker over Allison Carney 4-6, 6-2 (11-9), and Camille Simonetti (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) dropped Jackie Kelly 6-3, 6-4.

In doubles action against Villanova, the team of Valera and Globerman served up an 8-3 victory over Candice Carlin and Colleen Walter, while the squad of Sotak and Kelly Porter (Chappaqua, N.Y./Covenant of the Sacred Heart) fell short of victory to Carla Erskine and Daniella Phillis, 9-7.

In the doubles matches against Binghamton, Globerman and Varela continued their strong play as they defeated Lya Kushnirovich and Juliana Umeki 8-2. The team of Grossman and Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) lost a tiebreaker to Danyelle Shipiro and Erica Rosenblum 9-8, (7-4).

The Bison will travel to Quinnipaic, Conn., for the Quinnipiac Invitational on Friday, Sept. 22.
