HAMDEN, Conn. - The Bucknell women's tennis squad continued its competition at the Quinnipiac Invitational Saturday morning. Freshman Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) defeated UMBC's Pascaline Cette, 7-6(4), 6-3, in the quarterfinals and dropped Kelley LoRusso of Uconn in a three-set tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-5, (10-5) in the semifinals. She will play for the Flight B Championship Sunday at 9 a.m.

In Flight A singles, Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) fell to fourth-seeded Mary Wilson of Quinnipiac, 4-6, 4-6. Renee Weissand (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) lost a three-set tiebreker to Uconn's Liz Dibbs 7-6(5), 0-6, (10-12), while Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) dropped her quarterfinal match in straight sets to Bridie Burke of Army, 4-6, 0-6.

In the quarterfinals of the Flight A doubles, Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) and Gamboa defeated Army's Niki Flach and Sarah Giles-Madden, 8-6, while Ashley Globerman (New City,N.Y./Clarkstown) and Varela came back from being down 7-4 to drop Gabby Pasternak and Mary Wison, 9-7. In Flight B doubles, JoAnna Grossman (Florham, N.J./Hanover Park) and Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) advanced to the semifinals after beating Adriana Fonseca and Cornelia Carapcea, 9-7.

Day three of the Quinnipiac Invitational will continue Sunday, Sept 24, at 9 a.m.
