LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team collected its sixth win of the season over Villanova, 6-1, this afternoon on the Bucknell University tennis courts in Lewisburg, Pa. The Bison were victorious in all of their doubles matches, to give the squad the 1-0 lead right from the start.

Opening the match with doubles play, the Orange and Blue won tough battles with senior Veronica Brown (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) and freshman Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates) in the No. 1 spot, senior Chelsea Mills (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) and sophomore Caitlin Baffa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) in No. 2, and the freshman duo of Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) and JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) in the No. 3 position.

Brown and Gamboa dominated over Jaclyn Williamson and Daniella Phillis, 8-3, while Mills and Baffa were able to come out on top of a close 8-6 match against Ashley and Melissa Reed. Globerman and Grossman won their match handily, 8-4, over Lindsey Puchyr and Zoe Murray.

In singles play, the Orange and Blue collected wins in the No. 2 through No. 5 positions, with Mills leading the way in the No. 2, winning her match over Villanova's Phillis, 6-2, 6-1. Gamboa grabbed a win in the No. 3, with Globerman in No. 4 and Grossman in No. 5. Winning the first dual match of her collegiate career was freshman Tiffany Card (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional) in No. 6, battling through a 5-7, 6-4 (10-1) win over the Wildcats' Ashley Reed.

"This wasn't the best we have ever played," said head coach Rebecca Helt, "but we fought hard to get the win."

The Orange and Blue (6-9, 2-1 Patriot League) will return to action on Thursday, April 13, in a Patriot League match-up against Lehigh. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Bucknell's tennis courts in Lewisburg.
