LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis squad began its 2006 fall campaign in the Bloomsburg Invitational on Saturday morning in Lewisburg, Pa. The Orange and Blue picked up a total of four wins in day one of competition.

In the women's singles versus Binghamton, JoAnna Grossman (Florham Park, N.J./Hanover Park) notched her first victory of the season against Alex Sinclair 6-1, 6-2, while Kirstyn Sotak (Beechwood, Ohio/Hathaway Brown) earned her first career victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jenn Kucko. Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) dropped a tiebreaker to Juliana Umeki 6-2, 2-6, (10-7).

Against Villanova in singles play, Ashley Globerman (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) collected her first singles victory this season with a win over Leighann Reilly. Sotak and Renee Weissand (Honeoye, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) dropped tiebreakers in their losses to Dani Phillips and Taryn Cappelline, respectively.

In the doubles competition against Bloomsburg, Globerman and Carlin Calcaterra (Hinsdale, Ill/Hinsdale Twp.) won 8-4 over the team of Tracy Nissenbam and Katie Hasyn. Eva Lipiec (Rockaway, N.Y./Polytech Prep) and Varela dropped a 9-8 (5) tiebreaker against Iida Hokkamen and Emily Murphy.

The Bison will begin day two of the Bloomsburg Invitational on Sunday Sept. 10 at 8:30 a.m. in Lewisburg, Pa.
