LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell looked energized in front of a great crowd at Davis Gym as it hung with Navy, the second-place team in the conference, but came out with a 3-1 (25-17, 15-25, 25-22, 25-21) loss in a Patriot League volleyball match Friday night at Davis Gym.

Bucknell saw its record drop one match below .500 with a 12-13 overall record and a 6-7 mark in the Patriot League. Navy improved to 20-6 overall and 10-3 in the conference.

Navy looked like the better team in the first set, but Bucknell turned things around with a dominant effort in the second set, rolling to the 25-15 win. The Bison never trailed in the set and were led by senior Hailey Stout with five kills and no errors on seven attacks, including a kill to clinch the win and tie the match at 1-1.

Bucknell carried that momentum into the third set as it took a 17-15 lead on a kill by senior Luz Nagle off an assist from sophomore Luz Nagle. But Navy scored the next three points to take the lead and went on to win 25-22.

Stout registered her first double-double of the season, posting team highs in both kills with 14 and digs with 20. Senior Stefanie Alpert continued the best stretch of her career with 11 kills on .429 hitting, while sophomore Sophie Bullard finished with eight kills and 14 digs.

Sarena Seelbach led a group of four Navy players with double-digit kills, tallying 14 for the match. Tara Dotzauer and Katie Patrick had 12 apiece, while Maddi Sgattoni chipped in with 10. Patricia Mattingly led all players with 48 assists.

Despite the loss, Bucknell is still in the playoff race. The Bison sit two matches back of Lehigh for the final spot, but the Mountain Hawks close the regular season with the top three teams in the league standings. Colgate entered the day tied with Bucknell, but did not have a match.

Bucknell closes its home schedule needing to get a win when it hosts Loyola on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Bison won 3-1 against the Greyhounds earlier this season.

Four players – Alpert, Celeste Barker, Nagle, and Stout – will be honored for Senior Day prior to Saturday’s match.
