LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second time in less than a week, Bucknell volleyball fell to Fordham in straight sets. The Bison (4-7) dropped a 28-26, 25-22, 25-9 decision to the Rams (6-9) at Davis Gym in their first match of the Bucknell Tournament on Friday night. Jessica Serrato (Millbrae, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) led Bucknell with 10 kills, while Meghan Wentzel (San Anselmo, Calif./The Branson School) added 17 assists.
The Bison and the Rams met at Fordham's own tournament on Sept. 8 with the Rams coming away with the victory. Although Bucknell was unable to reverse the outcome of their previous meeting, it did see some improvement. The Bison's attack percentage went up to .202 on Friday night. They also had six team blocks, up from just one last weekend.
Serrato hit .400 with 10 kills and two errors on 20 attempts. That percentage was topped on Bucknell's side only by Karen Campbell (Chesapeake, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate) at .444 (6-2-9). Defensively, Campbell and Kebah Edoho (Odenton, Md./Arundel) each had three blocks, while Hannah Young (McConnellsburg, Pa./Broadfording Christian Academy (Md.)) had five.
Bucknell was right in the hunt early in the match. Although Fordham managed a lead through much of the first set, Bucknell made a late push and earned two set points. The Rams fought those off each time and eventually came out on top 28-26.
The Bison posted a match-high .303 attack percentage in the first set, while the Rams hit their lowest of the night at .250. The second set saw the momentum start to shift, but Bucknell remained in the thick of the action. Serrato registered a kill to knot the set up at 21 points apiece. She added another to save set point at 24-22. Fordham's Lisa Hipp closed the door on the next point, however. Hipp ultimately finished the night with 13 kills, second only to teammate Brennan Delsing's 15.
Fordham ran away with the third set. Three times the Rams put together runs of five or more points, first going up 10-3, then 19-8. Claire Healy (Tiburon, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep) ended the final run with a kill, but by that time it was 24-9. The Bison finished the frame with five kills and a .045 attack percentage. The Rams came in with 14 kills and a .462 percentage in the third.
