Construction Begins on Phase III of Bucknell's West Fields Project

June 15, 2006

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Continuing with its efforts to improve athletics facilities at its West Fields complex, Bucknell earlier this week began construction on Phase III of its West Fields plan. Workers began excavation and installed temporary fencing around the area that will include covered grandstand seats and a number of other features for both Graham Field and the Varsity Soccer Field.

In addition to the covered grandstand seats, the project will include public restrooms, ticket and concession areas, team rooms, a training room, a viewing suite and a press box area, all situated between Graham Field and the Varsity Soccer Field. A visitor seating area will also be installed on the eastern side of the soccer field with a new scoreboard.

The project, which is expected to be completed late this fall, is the latest improvement at the West Fields. In the summer of 2003 Graham Field, the artificial surface that is home to the Bison field hockey and women's lacrosse teams, was installed. Last year the Bucknell men's and women's soccer teams received a new natural grass playing surface with a state-of-the-art irrigation system and lights.

Phase III construction will not disrupt the home schedules for the field hockey or soccer teams. The field hockey squad opens its home slate Aug. 26 against Robert Morris. The men's soccer team plays its first home contest Sept. 3 against St. Bonaventure, while women's soccer's first home match is Sept. 17 opposite Robert Morris.
