Bucknell Women's Rowing Holds Successful Home Event vs. Princeton Lightweights and Drexel
April 7, 2012
SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. (Susquehanna River) -The Bucknell women's rowing team held its only home event of the 2012 season Saturday and had a strong showing against the Princeton Lightweights and Drexel. Highlighting the day was the Bison lightweight eight's victory over the Princeton lightweight eight, marking the first-ever regular-season win for Bucknell over the Tigers in that event. The Bison lightweight eight had previously beaten Princeton at the IRA National Championship Regatta, but never in the regular season. Bucknell crossed the finish line more than three seconds ahead of the Tigers. Bucknell's openweight freshman eight raced the Princeton freshman lightweight eight and won by nearly nine seconds as the Bison captured both races against the Tigers. After about an hour break, Bucknell squared off against Drexel and won two of the three races. Competition against the Dragons started with the freshman eight. Drexel won the race, but the Bison used the same lineup that had just defeated Princeton a short while earlier. Bucknell's second varsity eight and third varsity eight then faced Drexel's second varsity eight. The Bison 2V8 won by nearly 16 seconds over second-place Drexel. Bucknell's 3V8 finished third. The day wrapped up with Bucknell's varsity eight defeating Drexel's varsity eight by nearly 14 seconds. Also on Saturday, the Bison program honored their 14 seniors during Senior Day ceremonies. Bucknell will return to action next weekend at the Knecht Cup, which will be held on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
