Bucknell Women's Rowing Wins Two Races Against No. 8 Ohio State
April 18, 2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Griggs Reservoir) – Facing its second of three nationally ranked opponents this weekend, the Bucknell women’s rowing team won two of five races against No. 8 Ohio State Saturday afternoon. The Bison claimed first place in both the novice eight and the second novice eight. The second novice eight opened the competition with a victory of nearly 12 seconds over the Buckeyes. The novice eight then followed with a tight victory, edging out Ohio State’s crew 7:06.26 to 7:06.39. The Bison jumped out to an early lead and then held off a late push from the Buckeyes. Last year when the two teams’ novice eights rowed against each other, Ohio State edged Bucknell by one-half second. Ohio State did sweep the three varsity events (varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four), although the Bison varsity four was sandwiched between the Buckeyes’ “A” and “B” boats. Earlier in the day Bucknell rowed against No. 4 Michigan, while Ohio State went up against No. 12 Oregon State. The Bison will wrap up their weekend competition Sunday morning opposite No. 5 Michigan State. Varsity Eight Results Varsity Eight Boat Lineup
