Bucknell Women's Rowing Finishes Second at ECAC Metro Championship
May 4, 2009
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (Cooper River) – For the second time in one week, the Bucknell women’s rowing team competed on the Cooper River on Saturday at the ECAC Metro Championship. Just six days after winning its fourth consecutive Patriot League title, the Bison placed second at the ECAC Metro Championship, an event it had won the last two years. Bucknell’s novice eight was the lone Bison boat to win a grand final, although the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four were runner-ups to Princeton in their grand finals. The varsity eight finished second in its heat to Fordham, but then claimed second in the grand final, crossing the finish line more than nine seconds ahead of the fourth-place Rams. The Bison were the only crew within 15 seconds of first-place Princeton. The second varsity eight also took second in its heat, but came back to earn a silver medal in the grand final, while the top Bison varsity four won its heat and then finished just over four seconds behind the Tigers. The novice eight edged out Villanova by 1.20 seconds in the heat and proceeded to win its grand final race by 4.61 seconds over second-place Rutgers. Following competition at the ECAC Metro Championships, the Bison held their end-of-season awards ceremony. Only the lightweight eight will be in action this coming weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River. Novice Eight Results Grand Final
