Four years ago I sat in Coach Kish's office for the first time. I was an injured high school lightweight rower looking to get involved in a collegiate crew team anyway I could... even if that meant switching to coxswain. I remember listening eagerly as coach talked about the recent success of the team, including the Varsity 8's second-place finish in the Petite Final of the Dad Vail Regatta, as well as the dreams he had for the program. He talked about one day being in contention for the Murphy Cup, challenging the Naval Academy at the Patriot League Championship, and even improving upon the lightweight 8's finish at the IRA Regatta. I couldn't help but be inspired by the potential future that the young Bucknell team had, all led by a determined coach's vision.

Nearly every weekend of my exciting four-year career was marked by a new program "first." From the team's first gold medal at the Murphy Cup, to their first Patriot League Championship, to their first IRA National Championship, each experience was one step more incredible than the last. After each of these program "firsts", coach would pull the team together and explain how whatever we had just accomplished was "something we'd never done before." These words were soon spoken so often that the team knew there was nothing out of our reach as long as we kept our focus very simple and worked hard together.

To be part of the Bucknell Women's Rowing team during this time of incredible program growth is something I will always be grateful for. I will forever be thankful that I was one of the first Bucknellians to feel the weight of the Murphy Cup medal as it hung around my neck, or to smell the polish on the Patriot League Cup, or to experience the feeling of being a national champion. These are the memories I will always have with me as I watch future rowers walk in the steps of my teammates as well as make their own "first" steps. While there are many more firsts still to be had for Bucknell, I can't help but smile knowing that I lived the dream that coach spoke about in his office just four years ago. I look forward to watching future rowers live the dream that coach currently shares...
