Five Bucknell Women's Rowers Earn Spots on CRCA All-Region Teams
May 26, 2009
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's rowing team had a record five student-athletes named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region Teams, it was announced recently. The five Bison to earn spots on the squads were seniors Whittney Henry (Mathews, Va./Mathews) and Page Kannor (Boise, Idaho/Boise), who landed on the first team, while senior Kelly Henkler (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), sophomore Carol Schoenecker (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and senior coxswain Jeweliet Yost (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City) showed up on the second team. Bucknell, which had four all-region selections in 2007 and three more in 2008, claimed its fourth consecutive Patriot League title late last month. All five all-region honorees were members of the varsity eight, which earned its fourth straight Patriot League Boat of the Year citation and also finished second to Princeton at the ECAC Metro Championship earlier this month. Kannor, who earned Bucknell's Christy Mathewson Award as the top senior athlete, and Schoenecker were named all-region for the first time in their careers. Henry, Henkler and Yost were all previously honored in 2007. Henry joins Katherine Brewster-Duffy as the only two-time first-team all-region choices in program history. This is the second time Henry, Kannor, Yost and Henkler have been recognized this season as each was an All-Patriot League selection as well. While none of all-region honorees are expected to compete, the Bucknell women's rowing team does have one more event this spring as the lightweight eight will compete at the IRA National Championships on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., the first weekend in June. The Bison won the event in 2007, marking the first national championship in school history.
