LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Gillian Carter (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley) and junior Devon Mitchell (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), both members of the Bucknell women’s rowing team, were named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Lightweight All-America Team, it was announced this week. It is the third straight year at least one Bison has earned a spot on the 10-person team.

Carter, who rowed in the sixth seat, and Mitchell, who was in the seventh seat, helped Bucknell to a second-place showing at the IRA National Championship Regatta this past weekend in California. It marked the fourth consecutive appearance in the Grand Final at the event for the Bison, who won the title in 2007, marking the only national championship in school history.

In addition to their duties with the lightweight eight, Carter and Mitchell were both key members of the Bison’s second varsity eight throughout the season. Both were also named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes last month.

Each of the six teams in the IRA Grand Final was guaranteed at least one student-athlete on the Lightweight All-America Team. First-place Wisconsin had two rowers and a coxswain honored, while second (Bucknell) and third (Stanford) each had two rowers named All-America. Fourth (Radcliffe), fifth (Georgetown) and sixth (Princeton) had one selection apiece.
