Bison Baseball Takes a Pair of Wins from Millersville, 5-3 and 12-5

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bison sophomore Chris Brannan smashed a walk-off homerun over the right field fence in the bottom off the 11th inning to secure Bucknell's 5-3 win over Millersville (5-11-1) in game one of Saturday's double header at Depew Field. The Bison also earned a win in the second game, pounding the Marauders 12-5, to improve to 3-11 on the season. The Bison were on the board early in game one as Matt Capece scored on a Ryan Gryskevicz single through the right side making the score 1-0. Bucknell extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Brannan scored on an error and Brian Day crossed the plate on a double by Austin Turban. Millersville scored two runs in the top of the sixth and knotted the score at 3-3 in the top of the seventh. The game remained tied until the bottom of the 11th when Gryskevicz singled to left and scored on Brannan's homerun. Reliever Ian Rainey earned the win to move to 1-0 on the season. Chris Kiehl took the loss for the Marauders to fall to 1-2 on the year. The Bison smacked 11 hits in game one and played well defensively, only committing one error. The Bison got out to the early lead again in game two with Capece scoring on a single by Gryskevicz. Millersville tied the score at 1-1 after one and a half innings when the Bison when ahead 2-1 as Brannan scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brad Duvall.
The Marauders tied the score yet again in the top of the third. The Bison reacted with a five run rally in their side of the inning making the score 7-2. Matt Belmont was credited with two RBIs in the inning with a single to right field. Phil Bunting also picked up two RBIs when he ripped a double to right center. Millersville scored one run in the fourth and two in the seventh to make the score 7-5, but wouldn't get any closer as the three more Bison cross the plate on wild pitches in the bottom on the sixth. Bucknell scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh as Kyle Walter hit a two-RBI single, bringing the final tally to 12-5. Matt Curry got the win for the Bison to improve to 1-3 on the year. Millersville's Austin Hinkle suffered to loss to fall to 1-2. Next up for the Bison is a game against Mount St. Mary's in on Tuesday, March 29. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Emmittsburg, Md. |
