Bucknell Baseball's Wilson Honored with Two Weekly Awards

April 14, 2008

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell baseball senior right-hander Mathew Wilson (Toronto, Ontario/Northern S.S.) was honored with a pair of weekly awards on Monday as he was named both the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week and the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for his performance on the mound against Holy Cross this past Sunday. These mark the first two career weekly awards for Wilson, who becomes the third member of the Bison pitching staff to be recognized by the league this season.

Wilson contributed to Bucknell's 3-1 series win over the Crusaders with a masterful pitching performance in Sunday's seven-inning contest that helped the Bison climb into a tie for first in the league standings. He threw all seven innings of the 3-0 victory for the Orange and Blue, picking up his fourth career shutout to tie Kurt Waldner for the program record in that category. Wilson held Holy Cross to just four hits, all singles, two of which came in the first inning. He also set a career high with 11 strikeouts, the most by a Bucknell pitcher since Eric Junge fanned 11 in 1999.

In four appearances on the season, Wilson is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA and has 35 strikeouts in 25.1 innings, for an average of 12.43 per game and has walked just five batters.

The Bison, who are 17-16-2 on the season, 7-1 at home thus far, will continue a nine-game homestand this Thursday, Apr. 17, when the team plays host to Penn State Erie at 3:30 p.m. on Depew Field.
