Patriot League Men's Basketball Schedule Announced, Bucknell Slated for at Least Three Television Appearances
Oct. 3, 2012
2012-13 Bucknell Men's Basketball Schedule LEWISBURG, Pa. –The Patriot League office released the 2013 men’s basketball league schedule as well as its CBS Sports Network television package on Wednesday. Bucknell opens up Patriot League play at home against Army on Jan. 12, and the Bison will make at least three appearances on CBS Sports Network. Bucknell and Lehigh met in the Patriot League championship game last season, and both highly anticipated rematches will air live on CBS Sports Network this winter. Lehigh will visit Sojka Pavilion on Wednesday, Jan. 23 for a 6 p.m. tip, and the Bison will return to Bethlehem, Pa., for a Monday night affair on Feb. 18. Bucknell’s game at Holy Cross on Saturday, Jan. 26 will also be televised on CBS Sports Network at 4 p.m. In addition, the final two weekends of the regular season are set aside as “flex” dates, where the televised matchup will be selected 10 days prior, based on league standings and relevance to the postseason race. The flex slots are Sunday, Feb. 24 at noon, when Bucknell hosts Holy Cross, and Saturday, March 2 at noon, when the Bison close the regular season at Navy. In the Patriot League Tournament, both semifinal matchups and the championship game will once again be televised on CBS Sports Network. The semifinals will be played at 2 and 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, followed by the championship game on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. All tournament games are played on the home floor of the higher-seeded team. The Bison will play three of their first four Patriot League games at home this season. After opening with Army, Bucknell visits Colgate on Jan. 16 but then will have back-to-back home games with Lafayette (Jan. 19) and Lehigh (Jan. 23). Lehigh is the only Patriot League foe in the last two years to win a game in Sojka Pavilion. Last year Bucknell defeated the Mountain Hawks in Stabler Arena before Lehigh came back and won in Lewisburg on a C.J. McCollum buzzer-beater, ending Bucknell’s national-best 20-game conference winning streak. The two teams met again in Sojka Pavilion in the Patriot League Tournament final, and the Mountain Hawks prevailed in a wildly entertaining game that came down to the final possession. Both teams then won games in the postseason, with Bucknell defeating Arizona in the NIT and Lehigh upsetting Duke in the NCAA Tournament.
Bucknell closes out the first round of Patriot League play with consecutive road games at Holy Cross (Jan. 26) and American (Jan. 30), followed by a home game with Navy on Saturday, Feb. 2. In the second half of the conference schedule the Bison will have a tough test playing both Lehigh Valley teams on the road in a two-day span. Bucknell visits Lafayette on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m., then must turn right back around for that Monday night televised game at Lehigh. The final home game of the regular season is slated for Wednesday, Feb. 27 against American at 7 p.m. The Patriot League Tournament kicks off with four quarterfinal games on Wednesday, March 6. Bucknell’s non-conference schedule was announced last month. Among the highlights are a season-opening tilt at Purdue as part of the 2K Sports Classic benefitting Wounded Warrior Project; the renewal of the series with local rival Penn State; a January road trip to Southeastern Conference newcomer Missouri; and home games against mid-major powers George Mason, Kent State and La Salle. The season-opener is set for Friday, Nov. 9 at Purdue. 2013 Patriot League Men's Basketball on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) |
