Oct. 7, 2000
WASHINGTON (AP) - Jabu Powell rushed 38 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns as Bucknell beat Georgetown 24-10 on Saturday. Powell, coming off a 214-yard effort against Duquesne, helped the Bison (4-1) win their fourth straight game after a season-opening loss at Richmond. Georgetown (2-3), an independent which will join Bucknell in the Patriot League in 2001, lost its second straight game in the first meeting between the teams since 1939. Gharun Hester caught a touchdown pass for Georgetown. It was the 33rd of his career, improving his own school record. The Hoyas took a 7-0 lead on an 11-play, 80-yard march helped along by David Paulus' 19-yard fake-punt pass to Ryan Cooper on fourth-and-6 from the Hoyas' 35. Hester scored on a 31-yard reception with 7:54 remaining in the first half. Powell tied it on a 5-yard run, and Bucknell's Mark Tallman recovered Alex Fonti's fumble at the Georgetown 37, setting up Chris Lundberg's 26-yard field goal as time expired in the first half. Chris Samuel's 30-yard field goal midway through the third quarter tied the game, and the Bison turned a turnover into Powell's touchdown and a 17-10 advantage. Chad Marsillio recovered Hester's fumble at the Georgetown 25 and the Bison needed only three plays before Powell's 6-yard run off right tackle. Lucas Phillips' 34-yard pass to Tim Johnson made it 24-10 with 12:22
remaining in the game.
