Bucknell Loses To Last Second Field Goal By Holy Cross, 10-9
Nov. 4, 2000
Holy Cross 10, Bucknell 9 WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Ryan Rolfert kicked a 39-yard field goal on the final play of the game as Holy Cross edged Bucknell 10-9 on Saturday. Rolfert's kick rescued Holy Cross (5-4, 2-3 Patriot League) after the Crusaders' other kicker, Frank Traupman, missed a 44-yard field goal on the previous play. But Bucknell (6-3, 3-2) was penalized for roughing the kicker, setting up Rolfert's field goal as time ran out. Erreick Stewart led the winning drive, completing all three of his passes and scrambling 16 yards to set up the winning kick. Holy Cross took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Stewart led Holy Cross on an 11-play, 61-yard drive that ended with his 4-yard touchdown run. Jabu Phillips then keyed a 15-play, 51-yard drive for Bucknell that set up Chris Lundberg's 31-yard field goal before the half. Dave Evans' interception set up Lundberg's 27-yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-6 with just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Lundberg's third field goal, a 23-yarder, gave Bucknell a 9-7 lead with 13:42 left in the game, setting the stage for the winning drive by Holy Cross.
