Bucknell QB Daris Wilson Earns Three Weekly Honors After Record Day at Holy Cross

Senior QB Rushed for 252 Yards and 5 TDs in Bucknell Victory

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell senior quarterback Daris Wilson (Kenner, La./Archbishop Rummel H.S.) picked up three weekly awards on Monday, including one national award, less than 48 hours after piling up 252 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a 42-27 victory over Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Wilson was named The Sports Network Division I-AA Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and third time in his career, and he was also cited as the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week.

Wilson's career-high 252 rushing yards came on 31 carries, and he shattered his own Bucknell and Patriot League records for rushing yards by a quarterback (he ran for 199 at Fordham last season). The rushing total ranks second on Bucknell's all-time list, behind only the 282-yard performance from Jabu Powell against Cornell in 2000. It also ranks seventh on the Patriot League single-game rushing list.

The director of Bucknell's run-oriented, spread option offense, Wilson became the first Bucknell player in 33 years to score five touchdowns in a game. Mitch Farbstein was the last to do it against Lafayette in 1971. The five TDs were one shy of the Patriot League mark, set by Gordie Lockbaum of Holy Cross in 1986.

Wilson scored on runs of 1, 3, 10, 15 and 8 yards. He had all four of Bucknell's second-half touchdowns as the Bison outscored the Crusaders 28-7 over the final 30 minutes. Bucknell trailed 27-21 late in the third quarter before Wilson rattled off the final three scores of the game over the final 21 minutes.

Wilson, who shared The Sports Network honor with Cedric Stevens of Chattanooga, is the second Bison to be honored nationally this season. Dante Ross was the special teams player of the week after returning two kickoffs for touchdowns against Georgetown on Oct. 2.

He now ranks fifth in the Patriot League in total offense and sixth in both rushing and scoring. Wilson's 252 yards Saturday is the highest rushing total in the nation by a quarterback this season and the eighth-highest overall. His five touchdowns are the second-highest nationally in Division I-AA.

Bucknell's victory on Saturday snapped a three-game losing streak and evened its season record at 4-4 overall, 2-2 in the Patriot League. Bucknell hosts Fordham this Saturday at 1 p.m. on Homecoming Day at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
