Bucknell Football's Orth, Lauletta Earn Weekly Honors from Patriot League
Nov. 21, 2011
LEWISBURG, Pa. - A Bucknell football senior who played in his final career game this past weekend and a freshman who saw the first extensive playing time of his career were honored by the Patriot League on Monday. Senior kicker Drew Orth (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) earned the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week award, while freshman quarterback Trey Lauletta (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) was cited as the league's Rookie of the Week. Both players earned the first weekly awards of their careers. Orth and Lauletta were recognized for their performances in Bucknell's 21-6 season-finale loss at Colgate on Saturday. Orth was 2-for-3 on field goals on a blustery day in Hamilton, N.Y., while Lauletta completed 22 of 35 passes for 166 yards in place of injured starter Brandon Wesley. Orth, who accounted for all of the Bison's points in a game for the third time this season, posted his fifth multi-field goal game this season. He finished the year 12-for-15 on field goals, which lists him tied for third with Al Yuknus on the program's single-season field goals list. Orth didn't take over as the team's primary kicker this year until week three at Cornell. A solid kicker throughout his tenure as a Bison, Orth finished his career 25-for-32 on field goals, putting him 12 makes behind Yuknus' program record. Orth is currently tied for 17th nationally in field goals made per game (1.33). He totaled 125 points in his career, including a career- and team-high 52 this fall.
Lauletta made his season debut in week nine at Lafayette and saw limited action against the Leopards and Fordham. He was expected to split time at quarterback against Colgate as well, but a first-quarter injury to Wesley opened the door for the freshman and he produced. Lauletta's 166 passing yards were the most by a Bison quarterback since Oct. 8 against Lehigh. He also ran 15 times for 34 yards as he helped Bucknell surpass 300 yards of total offense for the fifth time in 2011.
Bucknell (6-5, 2-3 PL) finished the 2011 campaign with nine total Patriot League weekly awards. The Bison, in 2011, equaled the program record with a five-win improvement from 2010. |
