HAMILTON, N.Y. -- A top-10 finish from senior Dan Bernard helped the Bucknell men's golf team take third place out of nine teams at the season-opening Colgate Invitational, which concluded Sunday at Seven Oaks GC. Bernard turned in rounds of 76 and 77 for a final 36-hole total of 153.

Schuyler Stitzer and Zach Pogust both finished in the top 20 for the Bison. Stitzer shot 75-79 to place T-13th, while Pogust carded 77-78 for a T-18th finish.

The Bison also started a pair of freshmen this weekend. Luke Edelman, who won the team's 90-hole qualifier over the previous two weekends, debuted with an 80 on Saturday but bounced back with a team-best 76 in round two. Nick Geissler shot 83-80 in his first collegiate event.

Youngstown State's Bill Gaffney was the lone player in the field to finish under par. He shot 71-72 for a 1-under 143, giving him a seven-shot victory. That helped the Penguins outdistance runner-up Lehigh by 10 shots for the team title.

Youngstown State shot 598, followed by Lehigh (608), Bucknell (618), Fordham (625), Le Moyne (634), Ottawa (634), Colgate (639), Rider (642) and Niagara (655).

The Bison return to action next weekend at their own fall tournament. The Bucknell Invitational gets underway on Friday at the Bucknell Golf Club and continues through Saturday.
