Bucknell Men's Golf Wins Colgate Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Tom Lane fired an even-par 72 and was one of three Bison players to finish in the top eight, as Bucknell cruised to a six-shot victory at the Colgate Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday at Seven Oaks Golf Club. After having not won a tournament since 1987, Bucknell has now captured three championships in the last 12 months. The Bison won the Bucknell Invitational last fall, then took first at the St. Peter's Invitational in April. Next weekend they will try to defend their title at their own tournament. Bucknell had to overcome some adversity en route to a final-round 299 on Sunday. The Bison, who scored 298 in the opening round, finished at 597 overall, six strokes ahead of runner-up Cornell. Rider (604), Binghamton (605) and St. Francis (Pa.) (606) rounded out the top five in the 19-team field. Other Patriot League teams in the field included Lehigh (9th, 618), Colgate (10th, 624) and Lafayette (11th, 625). After carding a first-round 75, sophomore Ryan Hom was disqualified on Sunday, meaning the Bison had to count each of its other four scores. Fortunately, all four came in at 77 or better. Charlie Waddell was Bucknell's low player for the tournament, shooting 72-75 to finish in a two-way tie for fourth place individually. Lane (77-72) and Ben Pellicani (74-75) both finished in a tie for eighth place. Alex Dolle finished with a pair of 77s and tied for 30th. Mike Arts of Lafayette was medalist with rounds of 74-71, winning by one shot over first-round leader Richard Hayes of Colgate (69-77) and Rickey Allen of St. Francis (72-74). The Bison host the Bucknell Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the Bucknell Golf Club.
