Bucknell Men's Golf Finishes Fourth at Cornell Invitational
Sept. 30, 2007
ITHACA, N.Y. -- Bucknell senior Rahul Desai (Avon, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford School) produced his third top-3 finish in four starts this fall, helping the Bison to a fourth-place result at the Cornell Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. The Bison entered the day in fourth place, but they could not match Saturday's strong scores of 294 and 295. On Sunday Bucknell had to count a score in the 80s for one of the few times this season and finished up with a 308. St. Bonaventure was one of only two schools in the 16-team field to break 300 in tougher scoring conditions on Sunday, and the Bonnies came from behind to win by seven shots over Longwood. Host Cornell was third, eight shots in front of Bucknell. Dartmouth was three behind the Bison in fifth. With a 54-hole team score of 897, the Bison easily topped the other two Patriot League squads in the field. Lehigh finished 12th at 920, while Lafayette 14th with a 925. Desai entered the day at 3-under par after opening with rounds of 70 and 71, and he shot a 3-over 75 on Sunday to finish at even par for the tournament. Earlier this fall, Desai was second at the Colgate Invitational and third at the Bucknell Invitational. Jeff Pike (Rye, N.Y./Rye) also shot 75 in round three, and Andrew Cohen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) carded a 78. Brian Bartow (Rye, N.Y./Rye Neck) and Brian Poe (Chagrin Falls, N.Y./Gilmour Academy) both shot 80. Dan Abbondandolo of Siena used a final-round 69 to win the individual medal by two shots over Rider's Tyler Brewington.
