BU Linksters Have Strong Showing At Stabler Collegiate Invitational
Oct. 14, 2000
BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- This past weekend, October 13-14,
the Bucknell men's golf team competed at the Stabler Collegiate
Invitational on the golf course at Center Valley Country Club.
The Bison shot a two-day total of 616 (309-307), finishing only
one stroke back from the ninth place team, host Lehigh.
Senior Ken Kosteva (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) had
an exciting weekend for the Orange and Blue as he finished in
a tie for the overall lead after 36-holes of golf. Kosteva, who
shot a first round 71, finished the day on Saturday with a 74,
which was good enough to tie him with George Washington's Bryan
Derdenger at 145. After a double-bogey at the 10th hole and a
triple-bogey at the 11th hole, Kosteva responded by birdying the
next two holes to get back to two over par and in an eventual
tie for the lead.
The two golfers then proceeded to a sudden death playoff to
decide the invitational's victor. Kosteva missed a 10-foot birdie
putt on the first playoff hole and that would turn out to be his
only chance. Derdenger put the nail in the coffin on the fourth
playoff hole to take the victory and leave Bucknell's Kosteva
with a fine second place finish.
The men's golf team will play again tomorrow, Wednesday, October 18, when they compete at the Lehigh Quad in Bethlehem, Pa.
