Patriot League Men's Golf Championship Relocated to Bucknell Golf Club
April 17, 2007 LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Due to recent rainfall in the Northeast, this weekend's Patriot League Men's Golf Championship has been relocated to the Bucknell Golf Club, Patriot League Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced Tuesday. Army was slated to host the championship at the West Point Golf Course, however, due to the significant rainfall, the course conditions forced the championship to move. The 54-hole event begins with 36 holes of play on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. The final round of the tournament is slated for Sunday, also starting at 8 a.m. The tournament is open to the public free of charge. The Patriot League team champion receives an automatic bid into one of the three NCAA Regional tournaments. "We would like to thank all of our member institutions for their understanding for the change in location for this year's Patriot League Championship," said Femovich. "In particular, we would like to thank both Bucknell and the U.S. Naval Academy for offering to host this year's championship. Army has worked hard to host this event, and felt due to the excessive rainfall that it could not showcase their outstanding golf facilities for this year's championship." Bucknell has hosted three previous Patriot League Championships (1994, 2000 and 2005). Two years ago in Lewisburg, Pa., Army won the team title, while Charlie Waddell of Bucknell won individual honors. Last season, the Bison won their first Patriot League title at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course, while Waddell became the first player in league history to repeat as individual champion.
