Bucknell's Charlie Waddell Appears in Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd
May 5, 2006 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's golfer Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) appears in the May 8 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine's Faces in the Crowd, which hit the newsstands this week. Waddell captured the Patriot League men's golf individual title last month as he led the Bison to their first-ever team championship. Waddell shot a 3-under-par 210 to become the first player in league history to repeat as individual golf champion. Waddell also won the title in 2005, becoming the first player from Bucknell to do so. His 10-stoke victory helped the Bison edge nine-time champion Army by just two strokes in the second-closest championship in league history. In the first round, Waddell ignored steady rain and chilly temperatures to shoot a 2-under 69. He followed it up with a 70 in the second round and a steady 71 to close the tournament. His two-putt par on the 54th hole clinched the victory for the Bison. His 210 total was one shy of the tournament record, which he tied last year. It was also the lowest score in any of the four Patriot League Championships contested at Navy.
Waddell and the Bison have qualified for the NCAA Regionals May 18-20 at one of three sites: Lake Nona Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., Sand Ridge Golf Club in Cleveland, Ohio, or Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. The finals are May 31 to June 3 at Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore. Bucknell will learn its destination when the NCAA releases the field on Monday, May 8.
