April 24, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's lacrosse team garnered five All-Patriot League citations on Tuesday, including a league-high four First Team selections. The Bison, ranked 18th nationally heading into this week's Patriot League Tournament, placed senior attackman Billy Eisenreich (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), senior midfielder Nick Gantsoudes (Redding, Conn./Avon Old Farms), junior defenseman Mike Huffner (Elmira, N.Y./Notre Dame) and junior goalie Kyle Feeney (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) on the First Team. Freshman midfielder David Dickson (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) earned Second Team honors. Of Bucknell's five All-Patriot Leaguers, three are repeat selections. Eisenreich and Huffner also earned First Team honors last season, while Feeney moves up after receiving a Second Team certificate in 2011. Eisenreich joins Colgate's Peter Baum and Army's Garrett Thul on a high-scoring First Team attack unit. Eisenreich enters the postseason with 31 goals and 32 assists for 63 points. He ranks fifth nationally in assists per game and sixth in total points per game, and he currently one of only two players in all of Division I lacrosse with 30 goals and 30 assists this season. Eisenreich is just the third player in program history to accomplish the 30-30 milestone, and he became the seventh Bison to record 60 points in a season. Eisenreich was named to the Tewaaraton Trophy watch list earlier this season, and he has backed up that distinction with some big performances. He tied a school record by racking up 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in a 17-10 win over a good Robert Morris team on March 28. Eisenreich logged three goals and three assists against a Massachusetts team that is still undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the nation, and he posted two goals and five assists in a big road victory over Navy. He has at least one goal and at least two points in every game this season.
Gantsoudes has put up career-best numbers as a senior in 2012, and he was rewarded with his first All-Patriot League honor. Gantsoudes has 19 goals and nine assists for 28 points, all personal bests. He recorded his second career five-goal game win a win over Albany on March 24, and he added an assist in that contest for a career-high six points. He also recorded a hat trick against Hobart and two-goal games against Villanova, Navy, Drexel and Lafayette. Huffner repeats as a First Team All-Patriot League pick after another terrific season for the Orange & Blue. Despite missing fall ball with a foot injury, he quickly regained his spot as Bucknell's No. 1 defenseman, where he typically marks the opposition's best attackman. Huffner ranks second on the team in caused turnovers with 25 and he also has 29 ground balls for a defense that allows only 8.8 goals per game. Just last week he logged five ground balls and four caused turnovers against Colgate. He also had four caused turnovers in a dominating 8-3 win over Penn and collected five ground balls in the win at Navy. Feeney has continued his development as one of the top netminders in Division I lacrosse. His 162 saves this season are 25 more than his previous career high. Feeney ranks ninth in the nation with a .570 save percentage, while his 8.53 goals-against average ranks 16th nationally and second in the Patriot League. Feeney has recorded double-digit save totals 10 times this season, with a high of 16 against Villanova. Dickson has been one of the top newcomers in the nation in 2012. He earned a spot on Bucknell's first midfield line at the start of the season, and he is tied for third on the squad with 38 points on 14 goals and 24 assists. He leads all Division I freshmen in assists and ranks fourth nationally among freshmen in total points. Dickson has registered a point in 14 of 15 games this season, including a pair of five-point showings against Villanova and Albany. He had five assists in the Albany game and four helpers against Lafayette, leading to one of his three Patriot League Rookie of the Week citations this season. Dickson is the first Bucknell freshman to earn All-Patriot League honors since Charlie Streep in 2009. Bucknell is 9-6 overall and will be the No. 4 seed at this week's Patriot League Tournament. The Bison face off against top-seeded Colgate in the first semifinal game this Friday at 5 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y. The contest will air live on CBS Sports Network. |
