LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's lacrosse seniors Michael Abou Jaoude (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius) and Matt Baran (Wilmington, Del./Tatnall) were named Second Team All-Patriot League, the league office announced Tuesday. Also, Bison freshman Joe Mele (Westbury, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) copped Rookie of the Year honors.

Baran, the team's starting goalkeeper each of the last three years, copped second-team plaudits for the second consecutive season. Abou Jaoude was a member of the first team last year.

Baran started all 14 games this season and made 138 saves while allowing just 102 goals for a save percentage of .575. With 13 saves in the final contest of his career, Baran increased his career total to 465, the sixth-most in program history. Baran played nearly 99 percent of his team's minutes in goal this season. Five times this year Baran limited the opposition to six goals or less in a game.

Michael Abou Jaoude was named Second Team All-Patriot League.

Abou Jaoude, made his second consecutive appearance on the all-league teams, and had a solid showing in his second year as the team's "shut down" cover man, who is usually assigned to the opposition's best offensive player. He led a Bucknell defense that allowed only 7.3 goals per game this year, which was third-best in the conference.

Mele, who is the fourth Bison to earn Rookie of the Year honors, and the first since Chris Cara in 2002, led the team in scoring with 26 goals and 28 points. The 26 goals also led the Patriot League, while he ranked 10th in points. One of just six Bison to start all 14 games, Mele copped Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors twice this year.

Joe Mele was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year.

Bucknell's string of placing at least one person on the first team for five consecutive years came to an end. However, Bucknell has had at least two players cited in the postseason awards every year since 1998.

The Bison concluded the 2006 season with a 6-8 overall record, 2-4 in the Patriot League.
