Bucknell's Justin Sussman Picked for North-South All-Star Game
May 23, 2003 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Recent Bucknell graduate Justin Sussman (Towson, Md./Friends School), one of the top men's lacrosse goalies in school history, will play for the South squad in the annual North-South All-Star game on June 7 at Sacred Heart University's Campus Field in Fairfield, Conn. Another Bison could join Sussman on the South team, as midfielder Andrew Copelan (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) was selected as an alternate. The North-South game features the top senior players in the nation. The Division I game is slated to start at 3 p.m. on June 7, preceded by the Division III game at noon. Sussman is one of two goalies on the 28-man South team, joined by Denver's Jeff Nunziato. Sussman recently completed a fantastic senior season, when he helped lead the Bison to a share of their fourth straight Patriot League title. He posted a 9-4 record with 6.88 goals-against average, and his .664 save percentage ranked second nationally, just .003 behind the leader. Sussman repeated as Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection, and he was a three-time player of the week pick. Sussman is Bucknell's winningest all-time goalie (30) and ranks third all-time in saves (572) and fourth in career save percentage (.628). Copelan enjoyed the best season in his career in 2003 and earned second-team All-Patriot League honors. A key member of Bucknell's all-senior No. 1 midfield line, he nearly doubled his previous scoring high with 29 points on 11 goals and 18 assists. He managed one of the team's most important goals of the season, netting the tiebreaker with just over a minute to play in a crucial one-goal win over Hobart. Joining Sussman on the South team are: attackmen Mike Mollot (Maryland), Brian Marks (Villanova), Bobby Benson (Johns Hopkins), Devan Spilker (Limestone), Chris Summers (Loyola) and Luke Ogelsby (Penn State); midfielders Trevor Walker (Georgetown), Patrick Friel (Drexel), A.J. Shannon (Virginia), Owen Corso (Virginia), Kevin Cassese (Duke), Greg Conklin (Navy), Greg Wojtech (UMBC), Ryan Radonis (Loyola), Kevin Brennan (Duke), Chris Rotelli (Virginia), Adam Doneger (Johns Hopkins) and Austin Garrison (North Carolina); and defensemen Dan Cocchi (Towson), Ben Davis (West Chester), Mike Howlay (Maryland), Steve Brown (Penn), Chris Stebbings (Navy) and Brant Gresham (Georgetown). The South alternates are Copelan, Brad Downer (Delaware), Steve Will (North Carolina), Scott Carpenter (Lehigh), Tim Flannigan (UMBC), Ryan Obloj (Towson) and Matt Zappia (Penn State).
The South team is coached by Denver's Jamie Monroe and Johns Hopkins' Dave Pietramala.
