Bucknell's Ryan Goodman Named to Academic All-District First Team
May 27, 2005 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Ryan Goodman, who recently completed his senior year with the Bucknell men's lacrosse team, has been named to the Academic All-District II Men's At-Large First Team. It was the third consecutive year Goodman has been named to the first team, and he now becomes eligible for the national Academic All-America Team. District voting is conducted by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Candidates must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve. The at-large squad encompasses 12 NCAA-sponsored sports, lacrosse included, that do not have their own Academic All-America voting. One of four lacrosse players on the men's at-large first team, Goodman was a key faceoff man, winning 44 percent of his draws. The Franklin Lakes, N.J., native was 92-for-209 on faceoffs and attempted all but 48 of Bucknell's draws during the season. Goodman also led the team with 57 ground balls, and ranked second in the Patriot League in ground balls per game with 4.38 as Bucknell qualified as the third seed for the second-ever Patriot League Tournament in men's lacrosse. Off the field, Goodman has had an even greater impact on the Bucknell and local communities. An electrical engineering major with a 3.78 GPA, Goodman was the recipient of the Robert A. Latour Service Award at Bucknell's annual Senior Awards Banquet earlier this month. He also won the prestigious University Prize for Men, and in 2003 was the recipient of the Charles White Prize for excellence in athletics and academics. He also earned Bucknell's Emerging Leader Award, which is presented to a first or second-year student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership potential. Goodman takes part in the Best Buddies program at Bucknell, which pairs a student to a person in need of friendship and assistance. A member of the Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Goodman is involved with the Mortar Board Society and is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, and was a Homecoming Host. Prior to his junior year, Goodman served an internship for the school's Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management. The internship involved both engineering and management students who work on actual projects for Fortune 1000 firms. Fellow Bison Adam Freeman was also honored with a selection to the All-District II second team. The senior member of the swimming and diving team posted a 3.60 GPA as a mechanical engineering and economics major. Bucknell ranks third among all Division I institutions in total Academic All-Americans produced with 109 since 1970. So far this spring, Lauren Wible, a junior on the Bucknell softball team, and Goodman have been named to all-district first teams, making them eligible for Academic All-America honors.
