Bucknell's Blaise Fletcher Selected in Fifth Round of MLL Draft by Baltimore Bayhawks
June 4, 2004 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Blaise Fletcher, a 2004 Bucknell graduate and a standout defenseman on the Bison men's lacrosse team, was selected Thursday by the Baltimore Bayhawks in the fifth round of the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft. Fletcher will join former Bucknell teammate Justin Sussman, a 2003 supplemental draft pick, giving the Bayhawks the last two Patriot League Defensive Players of the Year. Sussman (1-1) has been the starting goalie in Baltimore's first two games of the season. Fletcher, a skilled and physically imposing close defenseman, was named the 2004 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year after leading Bucknell into the first-ever Patriot League Tournament. He was a three-time all-conference selection and never missed a game in four years with the Orange and Blue. Baltimore had the No. 1 overall selection in the draft, which it used to take four-time first-team All-American Michael Powell, who earlier this week led Syracuse to the national championship. With the fifth pick in the first round, the Bayhawks selected Maryland defenseman Lee Zink. Baltimore also picked Brown goalie Mike Levin, Johns Hopkins midfielder Kevin Boland and Delaware attackman Matt Alrich. The Bayhawks are next in action this Saturday against New Jersey at INVESCO Field at Mile High in Denver, Colo. They return home to face Rochester on June 13 at 4 p.m. at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium. For more on the Bayhawks, visit www.baltimorebayhawks.com.
