LEWISBURG, Pa. - Ryan Goodman (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Dwight Englewood), who recently completed his junior year with the Bucknell men's lacrosse team, has been named to the Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. It was the second straight year Goodman has been named to the team, and he now becomes eligible for the national Academic All-America Team.

District voting is conducted by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Candidates must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key reserve. The at-large squad encompasses nearly two dozen NCAA-sponsored sports, lacrosse included, that do not have their own Academic All-America voting.

One of only two lacrosse players named to the men's at-large first team from District II, Goodman was a workhorse at the faceoff X for the Bison squad this spring. He attempted 283 of the team's 316 draws, winning 145 for a solid 51.2 percent success rate. Goodman was also an outstanding short-stick defensive midfielder who switched to a long pole on man-down situations. He led the team and ranked second in the Patriot League with 68 ground balls as Bucknell qualified for the first-ever Patriot League Tournament in men's lacrosse.

Off the field, Goodman has had an even greater impact on the Bucknell and local communities. An electrical engineering major with a 3.80 GPA, Goodman in 2003 was the recipient of the Charles White Prize for excellence in athletics and academics and Bucknell's Emerging Leader Award, which is presented to a first or second-year student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership potential.

Goodman takes part in the Best Buddies program at Bucknell, which pairs a student to a person in need of friendship and assistance. For two years, Goodman has developed a strong bond with a mentally disabled Lewisburg man named J.J. A member of the Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Goodman is involved in the Building on Foundations community service organization, and he is a coordinator in Bucknell's freshman orientation program.

Last summer, Goodman served an internship for the school's Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management. The internship involved both engineering and management students who work on actual projects for Fortune 1000 firms.

Joining Goodman on the at-large first team were Navy golfer Billy Hurley, Navy rifleman Michael Miller, Penn State tennis player Clint Keithley, Haverford fencer Don Gruewald, Temple golfer James Chan, Duquense wrestler Michael Frank, Lehigh wrestler Brad Dillon, Johns Hopkins lacrosse player Chris Watson, Drexel skier Stephen Hanlon and Penn State volleyball player Keith Cowal.

Bucknell ranks third among all Division I institutions (behind Nebraska and Notre Dame) in total Academic All-Americans produces with 107 since 1970.
