STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Bucknell freshman Alexander Far netted his first collegiate goal, but Penn State scored the game's first five tallies and held off the Bison 5-1 in the season openers for both teams Friday night at soggy Jeffrey Field.

Bucknell trailed just 1-0 at the half, but the Nittany Lions scored four times in succession to open the second half. Ricardo Villar had two goals and an assist for Penn State. His first tally came off a corner kick just 4:41 into the contest, but the Lions were quiet until Villar scored again in the 51st minute. Two minutes later Ken Lear made it 3-0, and Chad Severs and Jorma Makipaa added goals later in the half.

Junior Nick Taylor set Bucknell's goal in motion when he rushed along the baseline and delivered a feed through the box to Far, who rammed it home for his first goal on the Bison's first shot of the evening.

Sophomore Steve Whitaker made six saves in goal for the Bison, who were outshot 19-1.

Bucknell returns to action this Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Mount St. Mary's at 3:30 p.m.
