Bucknell's Conor O'Brien, Former Bison Michael Lookingland Lead Teams to Summer Championships

Aug. 28, 2007

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's soccer team won the Patriot League title last November, but that is not the only hardware players associated with the program have had their hands on lately. Sophomore Conor O'Brien (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and 2005 graduate Michael Lookingland each recently led his team to a championship. O'Brien helped the Terryville Fire Club Team to the Under-18 crown at the U.S. Youth Soccer Association tournament late last month, while Lookingland was a key member of the Harrisburg City Islanders that won the United Soccer League Second Division title this past weekend.

O'Brien was a key player on the Terryville squad that is based on Long Island and ended Arsenal FC's bid for a record fourth consecutive national championship by beating it by matching 1-0 scores on back-to-back days. The Bison midfielder assisted on the only score of the championship match as the Fire won 1-0.

O'Brien, who has played with Terryville since 1999, scored one goal and tied for third on the Bison team with three assists last year as a freshman. He was one of just five players to start all 23 games as he helped Bucknell to a Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament victory over George Mason.

Lookingland, who was recently named to the USL Second Division All-League Second Team, had similar success to O'Brien as he helped lead Harrisburg to its championship. The City Islanders defeated the Richmond Kickers 8-7 in a nine-round penalty kick shootout last Saturday night after playing to a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes of regulation and overtime.

Also a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League's Baltimore Blast, Lookingland appeared in 17 games and scored two goals and two assists with Harrisburg this summer. The defender was a three-time All-Patriot League selection and a two-time Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year during his time at Bucknell. He was the first Bison player ever drafted by a Major League Soccer team when he was picked in the second round of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft by Real Salt Lake.

The Bucknell men's soccer team, with O'Brien on the field, will open its 2007 campaign this weekend at the Northwestern Lakeside Classic. The Bison will play Northern Illinois at 3 p.m. (Eastern) Friday and Northwestern at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern) Sunday.
